Sometimes it just makes sense to assess your fishing gear and see if you are best equipped for the type of fishing you like to do. Initially you want to take your favorite fishing rod and ask yourself what it is about this piece of fishing equipment that makes it the one you favor the most.
You will probably see that the length of the rod is close to or perfect for your size. A longer fishing pole is not going to cut it if you are a shorter person as that would be too hard to handle. Casting, flipping and spoon fishing will be easier and more enjoyable for you with a shorter stick and you will not tire as easily either.
The next thing that is obvious in this procedure is the type of blank you prefer as that can be heavy or light or anything in between
. The tip of your rod is also a determining factor in the type of rod that meets your criteria for a quality piece of fishing equipment. Again, they come in different weights with the lighter weights good for cast fishing and top water fishing and the heavier ones for catching larger fish and deeper water fishing.
You may not realize it but odds are yo have a preference for the type of and the number of guides on your fishing rods. Depending on your preferences and how you feel the fish hit your line, you could prefer silicone carbide, gold aluminum oxide, chrome plated or even the guides with ceramic rings inside the outer metal frames. Each guide has a certain feel and a large part of choosing the guides is the touch you want when a fish strikes your lure or bait.
The final consideration is the length and material of your handle. You need to consider whether you like the feel of foam or the natural feel of cork when holding your rod and reel. This is almost strictly a personal preference but your choice does come into play if you fish extremes. So, take some time and evaluate your fishing rods and other tackle that you use because we all know that there is nothing better than a successful fishing experience.
